When I share with people that I lead a strategic advisory firm that supports donors committed to the elimination of racial disparities shape their experience of giving I’m often met with a bit of confusion, surprise, or disbelief. Confusion about what the “work” is when we are supporting donors, surprise that wealth holders and foundations need help to plan and manage their giving, and a bit of shock that this could be my full time job or the job of so many whose work is to direct capital (aka money) in support of or on behalf of others. Yet, there are many of us who support others to navigate what it means to hold wealth, how to allocate it strategically, and to understand how to align giving and investment plans with personal values.

While others, such as Phīla Engaged Giving have taken on the task of describing what it is that we do, I have found few spaces where we — advisors, resources influencers, investors, financial activist, and wealth holders — talk amongst ourselves about the power we hold in shaping the direction of untold amounts of capital toward organizations, causes, and movements through our work. Collectively, in our various roles we are shaping outcomes for individuals and communities by informing the choices that we and others make about their giving strategies, practices, and outcomes. Yet, we rarely come together to talk about this power, the values that guide our work or the collective influence that we might have in aligning our values and actions.

As a first step towards creating the space for these conversations Bold Ventures is creating a new space — All Together Bold — an intimate learning community dedicated to building a more just and equitable world. We recognize the pressing need for spaces where individuals working towards racial, cultural, and financial equity can come together for learning, skills development, and candid conversations. We are excited to create a space for shared learning, connection, and ideation — we hope that you read more about it in this newsletter and on our website and join us!
